Support for Memory
This six-week free service delivered by the Tibbs Dementia Foundation is designed to support people with mild dementia (or significant cognitive impairment) with a relatively recent diagnosis or with concerns about their memory.

The next  3 blocks run on Wednesdays, from 10.45am to 1.15pm from the 26th July- 30th August,13th September- 18th October, and 1st November- 6th December at The Health Centre, 84-86 London Road, Bedford, MK42 0NT.

Family carers, friends, or supporters are encouraged to attend sessions – with or without their person with memory concerns. Session content includes:

  • understanding memory loss
  • communication
  • forward planning
  • building networks of support and information.

Clear Voices 1 and 2
Weekly groups delivered by the Tibbs Dementia Foundation for people with dementia (or significant cognitive impairment) to meet with others in a similar situation, without family carers, in a supported, welcoming, understanding, small group environment.

The groups are aimed at people living with dementia who are able to comfortably engage in a group setting without their carer for an hour and a half each week. The sessions provide an important opportunity for people to find a means of expression – to talk through concerns and challenges, anxieties and achievements - and support each other to find a clear voice.

  • Clear Voices 1 – for people with mild to mid-stage dementia
  • Clear Voices 2 – for people with mid to later-stage dementia

Activi-tea
Weekly groups delivered by the Tibbs Dementia Foundation for people living with dementia.

Activitea 1 offers a stimulating environment but at a slower pace for people living with moderate to severe stages of dementia.

Activitea 2 is for those living with mid-stage dementia and follows on from the Cognitive Stimulation Group

Cognitive Stimulation Group
A structured service, closely following the Nationally recognised Cognitive Stimulation therapy model delivered by the Tibbs Dementia Foundation running  for 12 weeks for people with a recent diagnosis who have a good level of verbal communication.

Participants should where possible be able to commit to attend the weekly sessions on a regular basis for the 12 week block. People usually start this service at the beginning of a block.

Encompass 1 and 2 

Support groups delivered by the Tibbs Dementia Foundation for family carers and friends to learn about some of the practical and emotional impacts of dementia on their lives and the unique losses associated with closely supporting someone with dementia (or significant cognitive impairment).

Encompass 1 and 2 offer a forum for carers to meet others in similar situations - to share, offload and draw upon experiences to support each other - in a facilitated understanding, confidential, small group setting.

Encompass 1 – for carers of someone with mild to mid-stage dementia. Music 4 Memory 3 (for people with dementia and/or their carers) runs at the same time in the same building.

Encompass 2 – for carers of someone with mid to later-stage dementia. Activi-Tea service (for people with dementia) runs at the same time in the same building. A one-to-one Counselling Drop-In service (for family carers & supporters) runs at the same time in the same building.

Carers Groups
from 1st December 2016 (will coincide with Cognitive Stimulation and Activitea 2)

Facilitated weekly groups for the carers of those attending Cognitive Stimulation and Activitea, these groups offer a range of peer support including opportunities to share experience, express concerns and anxiety within the caring role and shared learning about dementia related issues.

Bedford Memory Gateway 
The Bedford Memory Gateway, delivered by Carers in Bedfordshire, offers a monthly face-to-face ‘marketplace’ of services for people living with dementia and their carers.

The Gateway will usually be attended by Memory Assessment Centre staff and providers of services and support, and is an opportunity for people affected by dementia to:

  • find out about services
  • talk through concerns on a one-to-one basis or in a group
  • experience taster sessions of available services

Bedford Memory Gateway will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month from 2pm to 4pm. Note this is at the same time and the same venue as the monthly Bedford Carers Café, and visitors to the Gateway can access all the café services. There is a charge of £1 on entry.

Carers Rest
A weekly group for carers and people living with dementia delivered by Carers in Bedfordshire. The group has regular social activities such as professional singers, bingo and quizzes, with coffee, tea and a hot lunch. It is a chance to relax and have fun amongst friends who are in the same situation.

Tuesdays, 10.15am-1.15pm

£2 for tea and coffee; £5 for a hot meal.

Dementia volunteer befriending

For carers registered with Carers in Bedfordshire who live with someone who has dementia, Carers in Bedfordshire may have a trained volunteer who can visit regularly. This service is free of charge.

Visits will usually be weekly for two hours on a Monday – Friday between 9.00am 5.00pm.  The same volunteer will visit each week and most volunteer befrienders only visit one family - really building up rapport and trust with each other.

Memory Navigation Service

A telephone based service, providing information and support for people with memory concerns or a dementia diagnosis, and their carers.
This service is run by Carers in Bedfordshire, in partnership with the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), working together with Tibbs Dementia Foundation and Alzheimer’s Society.
