On Sunday 17th September, some 45 dachshunds with their owners, families and friends, attended the first Sausage Stroll and Family Dog Show in Bedford’s Russell Park in aid of local charity Carers in Bedfordshire.
As well as the stroll, there was a fun dog show, with classes for best boy dachshund, best girl dachshund, and - to ensure all dogs and their owners had the opportunity to be part of the fun - best young handler, best non-dachshund and best trick.
The day was the brainchild of Carers in Bedfordshire staff member Jenny Harris, the proud owner of Cordelia. She said, “I know how much dachshund owners like to spend time together, so it seemed a great idea to arrange a fun day and dog show to allow that to happen and also raise money for a wonderful local charity that I’m proud to work for. We’re so grateful to everyone who donated prizes and/or gave their time to make this such a successful day.”
Polo won best boy dachshund, and best in show. His owner, Tess Golder, from Lower Shelton, said, “It’s been a fantastic morning out, bringing everyone together. I’m looking forward to the next one!”
Not content with having organised the successful Sausage Stroll, Jenny and her friends are off to the Netherlands next month to run the Amsterdam half marathon for Carers in Bedfordshire.
