Early Response Volunteers

We are setting up a new team of Early responders to listen to carers who register with us to find out what support they need.

Do you enjoy helping people over the phone?

Your help in working out what help they need, using our assessment method, will assist us to identify those carers in most need and those who can benefit from our groups, training and other programmes.

This volunteer role is ideal for anyone who has a background in telephone support or information, advice or guidance. We are looking for a half day commitment a week or a fortnight so that we can build up a rota of reliable and trained volunteers, supported by our Client Response Coordinator. We supply training to help you learn about the organisation and this service and to meet other members of the Early Responder team.

This is an ideal role for anyone who;

  • Has experience of giving telephone support, or has a background in giving information, advice or guidance 
  • Can give half a day a week or fortnight to make a difference in our community
  • Would like to join in our small, friendly Bedford Office based team
  • Would like to learn from our training or is looking to gain experience

Mark, who has been doing a similar role, says "I signed up because I want to help vulnerable people who sometimes get passed from pillar to post through no fault of their own. I am a carer myself so I have some insight into what people face when dealing with services"

Jewels also provides telephone support as a volunteer and says "I first got involved to keep my skills up as my background is in help and advice. I also find it’s good for my own emotional wellbeing. I get a buzz from putting the pieces of the jigsaw together for people – unless someone tells you what is out there, it can be hard to find the right advice and support"
