The Carers Rest is a weekly group held in Bedford. We run regular social activities such as professional singers, bingo and quizzes, with coffee, tea and a hot lunch. It is a chance to relax and have fun amongst friends who are in the same situations. Everyone supports each other.
Who can attend?
The Carers Rest provides a much needed break for carers caring for loved ones living with dementia or memory loss issues. Come along either by yourself or with the person you are caring for. We encourage carers to take a well earned break from caring for a loved one living with dementia or memory loss issues.
Occasionally we have speakers attend to talk on relevant issues for carers and their loved ones. A support worker is also on hand and helpful volunteers.
Where do we meet?
The group meets at
- Priory Methodist Church, Newnham Avenue, Bedford MK41 9QJ
- Tuesdays from 10.15am to 1pm
- Transport can also be provided from some locations
We charge £2 for tea, coffee and biscuits and if you would like to have a hot meal we charge £5 per head. These fees are inclusive of entertainment and activities at the Carers Rest.
Peer to Peer Support
An experienced carer, who is also a trained counsellor, is available each week if you wish to have a 1:1 session to talk over any worries you may have.
What do members say?
"It's my lifeline. I try very hard not to miss it. I feel supported and look forward to seeing everyone on a Tuesday. The entertainment is always good and I love being the bingo caller. The group gives me a much needed life when I am feeling down or swamped by my caring role." Tony Young.
