The responsibilities of supporting someone through cancer can feel both rewarding and worrying at the same time.

Being a carer

There may be lots to sort out practically, and often your own feelings, emotions and welfare can become side-lined. This is where Carers in Bedfordshire can help. You may benefit from a range of our one to one support, support groups or wellbeing service.

Carers assessment

If the person you are caring for is struggling to cope by themselves, you can arrange a Needs Assessment from their local council. You can have a Carers Assessment at the same time.

For further information about these assessments, visit our Getting a Carers and Needs Assessment information page.

Local Support

MacMillan Cancer provides information and support through Bedfordshire Hospitals. They run a Welfare Rights Service for anyone living in Bedfordshire. You can find a list of local support groups via their website.

National Support

You can find ideas on looking after yourself by visiting Macmillan Cancer Support, a national charity supporting people affected by cancer.
