As a volunteer I have really appreciated the support of my staff lead. It's always good to have a cheery conversation and feel that you are an important part of the team.

I am fortunate to know that Carers in Bedfordshire has many very kind and thoughtful people, all of which form part of this great organisation. Thank you for allowing me to play a very small part in helping people, whose lives have become difficult.

I thoroughly enjoy speaking to carers on the telephone. They are all very appreciative of the call and that we are genuinely interested in their wellbeing and how we may be able to help.

It supports my own mental health to help other people. I try to live by the quote "A stranger somewhere remembers you because you were kind to them".

I think I must be the luckiest volunteer around, because I am able to work from home, doing reviews and triage. Not only am I helping CiB, but CiB have given me a purpose to get up in the mornings, to make me feel useful.

In my experience, volunteering is definitely the best pathway to employment - you get trained on the job and if/when the right opportunity comes along, you can hit the ground running.

If we both decide to go ahead, we’ll meet up so we can get to know each other a bit better.

Then, we invite you to the next volunteer induction session.

After that, your new team will show you the ropes to get you started. Some roles require some on-the-job training.

Yes, there is some paperwork as you would expect. We conduct a DBS on all volunteers and take up references.
